Do sprinklers use a lot of water when activated?

No, sprinklers use less water than a firefighter's hose. The sprinkler controls the fire at its source. Fire hoses, on average, use more than eight times (250 GPM vs. 30 GPM) the water that sprinklers do to contain a fire. By comparison, a fire sprinkler uses about 341 gallons of water to control a fire (Scottsdale Report). Firefighters, on the other hand, use about 2,935 gallons to control a fire. Reduced water damage is a major source of savings for building owners.
