My building is going to be a “green” building. How is a fire sprinkler system eco-friendly?

Associated Sprinkler recycles as much as possible in every stage of manufacturing sprinkler systems. For example, a large percentage of the raw materials for the ductile iron castings, steel sprinkler pipe and brass components we use for your system came from recycled materials. What’s more, we recycle as many of our waste products as possible, including steel, brass, wood, cardboard, and paper from our office and plant.

In general, fire sprinkler systems save lives and property by controlling a fire at its source. By prohibiting the spread of heat, smoke, and environmentally damaging by-products found in building materials and the structure’s contents, sprinkler systems do their part to help the environment by limiting particle pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. What’s more, because there’s a shorter burn time, sprinklers help reduce the amount of landfill debris. Sprinklers that douse a fire use a fraction of water compared to the fire suppression efforts of a firefighter’s hose, which also means sprinklers contribute less water contamination in run-off water.
